Construction Industry Overview & Codes:

This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the construction industry, focusing on the regulatory framework and codes that govern construction practices. The course utilizes the 2012 Ontario Building Code Compendium Volume 1 & 2 as the primary reference material to delve into the key regulations, standards, and practices essential for professionals in the construction industry. Through theoretical study, practical examples, and case studies, students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of construction projects in compliance with legal and safety requirements.

Computer Applications:

In this course, students will be introduced to Microsoft Office basics including how to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Various correspondence and business documents will be demonstrated using Microsoft Office software. Students will also learn how to use the internet to view various sources to find documents, sources, view correspondence, and view business related web sites related to drafting of business documentation for the business office environment.

Business Communications:

Today’s graduates are entering the business environment with ever-increasing demands, as a result, communication skills are becoming more and more important. In the past, a business associate may have written a couple of business letters a month, but now they receive and send hundreds of e-mails and texts weekly. Their communication skills are showcased in every message they send. To help students develop the communication skills they need to succeed in today’s technologically enhanced workplace.

Human Resources:

This course provides a systematic approach to human resources management in a multinational context. Students will analyze macro trends and issues that influence the development and implementation of key components of international human resource management (IHRM). Areas covered include globalization and intercultural management strategies, strategic HRM issues in international contexts; recruitment, selection, training, development, compensation in multinational organizations, expatriation.

Construction Project Management:

This course is designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in construction health and safety. The course will cover essential topics related to integrating work health and safety into construction project management. Students will gain practical insights into managing health and safety risks effectively in construction projects, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and fostering a culture of safety.

Construction Planning & Scheduling:

This course provides comprehensive training in construction planning and scheduling, emphasizing the practical application of techniques and tools to effectively manage construction projects. The course will cover essential concepts, methodologies, and best practices. Through a combination of theoretical lectures, case studies, and hands-on exercises, students will develop the skills necessary to create, analyze, and manage construction.

Construction Cost and Construction Cost Control:

This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of construction cost estimation and control principles. Emphasizing practical applications and theoretical foundations, the course will equip students with the necessary skills to effectively manage construction projects within budgetary constraints. The course will cover various aspects of cost estimation, budgeting, cost control techniques, and project monitoring to ensure successful project outcomes.

Construction Finance:

This course in Construction Finance is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the financial management principles and practices specific to the construction industry. The course will cover essential topics such as cost accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, and risk management within the context of construction projects. Law & Contracts for Construction:

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the legal framework and contractual principles governing the construction industry. It covers various aspects of construction law and contracts, including contract formation, performance, breach, remedies, and dispute resolution. Construction Health & Safety:

This course is designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in construction health and safety. Students will be shown effective ways to design a professional resume and what pertinent information to include. Students will design job-posting-specific cover letters that complement their resumes and accentuate their skills and qualifications. Students will be introduced to the various methods in which they can apply for jobs (cold-calling, internet resources, and job banks) and how to effectively.
