Course Overview

This dynamic 8-week certificate equips you with foundational skills to support early childhood education settings in Ontario. The program includes 39 hours of Level 1 and 39 hours of Level 2 training, preparing you to assist in daycare centers, preschools, and early learning environments. It also offers a pathway toward further studies in the field.

LEVEL 1

1. Introduction to Early Learning and Childcare Environment

Build a strong foundation by exploring the structure of early learning in Ontario. Learn about professional responsibilities, legal standards, and the various types of childcare settings where you can work.

2. Foundation of Child Development

Understand how children grow and develop across emotional, physical, cognitive, and social domains. This module covers key developmental milestones and how to support them effectively. 

3. Communication and Observation Skills

Develop essential communication skills for interacting with children, families, and coworkers. Learn observation techniques to assess and support children’s individual needs and behaviors. 

4. Health, Safety, and Nutrition in Early Learning Settings

Discover how to maintain a safe and healthy childcare environment. Topics include nutrition planning, emergency procedures, hygiene practices, and accident prevention strategies. 

LEVEL 2

1. Facilitating Daily Routines and Transitions in Learning Settings

Master the planning and delivery of daily routines such as meals, rest time, and play. Learn techniques to support smooth transitions that promote consistency and emotional security for children.

2. Supporting Play- Based Learning

Explore the importance of play in child development. Learn how to create stimulating play experiences that foster creativity, problem-solving, and social interaction.

3. Guiding Children's Behavior

Gain tools for promoting positive behavior in early learning environments. Learn how to apply consistent, age-appropriate, and respectful approaches to behavior guidance.

4. Inclusive and Responsive Practices in Child Care

Learn how to create welcoming and inclusive environments for all children. This module covers cultural responsiveness, equity, and support strategies for children with diverse needs and abilities.
