Anatomy and Physiology

This subject introduces students to the basic principles of anatomy and physiology necessary for a general understanding of the human body. The relationship between structure and function is emphasized, and in addition, emphasizes the correlations between normal physiology and pathophysiology, normal anatomy and pathology, and homeostasis and homeostatic imbalances.

Medical Terminology

This course provides students with a thorough working knowledge of medical terminology that is used in the allied health fields. This course will also enable students to Use and write thousands of medical terms in the areas of anatomy, physiology, and introductory medical science.

Medical Transcription - Needs info

This course provides students with a thorough working knowledge of medical transcription that is used in the allied health fields. This course specifically provides hands-on training in order to ensure that the medical transcriptionist develops high level skills via the practice of transcribing in each medical specialty.

Medical Coding and OHIP Billing

This course will introduce students to the procedures of how health claims (mostly from Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care) are carefully recorded, billed and reconciled to obtain maximum revenue on a timely basis.

Job Search Strategies

This course offers students a thorough understanding of the skills required in order to obtain meaningful employment after graduation. Students will develop these skills through numerous practical assignments, in-class discussions, job searches procedures, and mock interviews.

Practicum

This module is designed to formally integrate the academic studies of the future graduate with real work experience within the industry. Students will be able to further develop and refine their skills by having the opportunity to gain hands-on experience as Medical Office Administrators in a qualified healthcare office facility.

Computer Fundamentals

This course is designed for those students new to computers and for those who want to further their understanding about how computers can be effectively integrated into the workplace. It will provide students with a strong foundation in computer concepts and skills related to PC’s and compatible computers. Students will receive a thorough introduction to the hardware components of a personal computer, as well as, basic knowledge of operating systems to become acquainted with computer applications.

Windows Operating System

This course provides a platform for students to develop greater awareness and confidence using personal computers. Students will gain practical information and skills, such as what Windows as a computer operating system is, how to create and manage personal files and folders, and how to use the features included in Windows XP.

Module includes the following: *Windows as a graphical user interface, *Folder and file management, *Document creation, *Windows Messenger, *Windows Media Player, *System cleaning, *Browsing the internet.

Keyboarding and Speed Development

Keyboarding accuracy and speed are developed through this dynamic course with the use of drills, tests and timings. The course is intended for beginners or those who want to improve their precision and advance their typing speed. It is a graphical and interactive typing class that provides lessons, safety tips, and the ability to create customized typing lessons to improve the students ability to communicate in the modern world.

MS Word: Word Processing

This course is designed to introduce students to the basic concepts of MS Word and to advance into more complex assignments using this effective word processing application. Students will be able to create and edit documents by locating and modifying text, format text, paragraphs and use of Word Tools; and they will also acquire the necessary competence to create complex documents; being able to add components such as, customized lists, tables, charts and graphics. Creating and using personalized MS Word efficiency tools is also an integral part of the course.

MS Excel: Numerical Processing

This course provides students with the knowledge and tools needed to work with MS Excel efficiently at the basic and advanced levels. During the training students learn how to input and organize data, format and print worksheets; as well as, how to edit, move and copy text, formulas and files. In addition students learn how to perform calculations, create formulas, produce graphs, work with multiple worksheets; use advanced formatting techniques to track and analyze business operations and create useful presentations and reports.

MS Outlook: Electronic Communications

This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and ability to effectively send and act on messages, as well as to work with tasks, use notes and manage contact information. Students will also learn to maintain the calendar, schedule appointments and events; and arrange meetings effectively. Furthermore, the training will prepare students to customize their Outlook environment, calendar and mail messages, to meet their specific work or personal needs.

Communications / Customer Service

This course has been designed to bring the real world of international business communications into the classroom. This course will assist students to improve their English communications skills by using a task-based approach with role-play, discussions, group assignments, and case studies. This is a classroom instructor-led course where concepts are presented using various tools such as: lectures, class discussions, group discussions, projects, case studies, role play, and open class dialogue.

Bookkeeping and Accounting Essentials

This course is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in Bookkeeping and its relationship to business. It covers the study of the complete accounting cycle with a detailed examination of both the conceptual and procedural elements of the cycle. Emphasis is placed on analyzing and recording business transactions, as well as, adjusting journal entries for both service and retail business. In addition, the use of special journals and subsidiary ledgers coupled with methods of recording and managing retail inventories are examined.

Medical Administration

This subject will provide the students with an orientation to the role and responsibilities of a medical administrative assistant. They will obtain professional qualities, of those who will choose this career while exploring the broad scope of opportunities including preserving confidentiality, practicing privacy, and fostering excellent team communication.
